Ethics and privacy

How your information is looked after

Ethics

  • Survey responses are anonymous.
  • Names and contact details are collected separately. Even if you’ve given your name and contact details to me, this is not linked to the survey.
  • When the survey closes, I will download the answers to a password-protected file on my own device. Only my academic advisor and I can see them.
  • Interviews have their own consent form and information.
  • Your answers are kept for two years after the project finishes, then deleted.

Privacy

I may collect your personal information in order to contact you about the second stage of the research, or to update you on research findings. This may include your:

  • name
  • location
  • contact information

All information is kept safe by storing it in a password-protected file, with access restricted to the researcher and advisor. You can request your personal information at any time, or ask for it to be corrected for any reason, by contacting me. Personal information will be kept for two years, after which it will be deleted.

This website

This website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets a cookie in your browser and sends information, including a shortened version of your IP address, your approximate location, and which pages you viewed, to Google, which stores it outside New Zealand.

This is separate from the research. It is not linked to your survey answers, and it cannot identify you. If you would rather not be counted, most browsers let you block cookies for a site, and browser extensions can block analytics entirely.
